This park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, has a natural area of 35.7 acres of prairie and wetlands.

Washington Park hosts many migrating songbirds and waterbirds. Natural (wild) areas around the lagoons provide habitat for them.  All three species of herons (Great Blue, Black-crowned night, and Green) nest around the lagoon, Egrets are also common. Many turtles live in the lagoons including snapping turtles.
