Chicago Ornithological Society is excited to partner with the Chicago Park District to conduct a morning of hawk watching from the most unique vantage point in Chicago and host their annual hawkwatch atop the climbing wall at Steelworkers Park!

Participants will ascend the ruins of the once mighty U.S. Steelworks plant and take advantage of a perch providing panoramic views of Chicago's South Shore to observe the spectacle of raptor migration.

Notes: The only way to access the elevated perch is via the climbing wall. There are no ladders or stairs available. Participants on the ground will be stationary. Wall is 30ft tall and classified as suitable for all levels of climber; beginner to experienced. Climbing the wall is NOT required to fully participate in this birding experience. There will be two groups for the duration of the program: a ground crew and an elevated crew. Participants are welcome and encouraged to swap. All participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for use either on the ground or on the wall. All required climbing equipment will be provided.
