An unexpected birding hotspot to the uninitiated, birders have discovered the value of these kinds of sites. While it might not be the first place that comes to mind for birdwatching, the Calumet Sewage Plant has emerged as a surprising haven for many bird species. Its expansive pools and varied habitats attract many species of shorebirds and waterfowl, with occasional unexpected rarities. Be prepared for a unique and rewarding birding experience.
