Big Marsh is perhaps Chicago’s best wetland area for birding and it is home to many big birds! Species such as Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, and Black-crowned Night Heron are all staples of Big Marsh, but other large birds can be found here during fall migration as well. Resident big birds like Double-crested Cormorant and Osprey are typically still present and some of the city’s less common (but no less small) residents and fall migrants like Peregrine Falcon and American White Pelican have been known to make appearances here during September.

Although the big birds are the big draw, Big Marsh hosts plenty of smaller birds as well – a variety of shorebirds, songbirds, and waterfowl are also present at Big Marsh during fall migration.
